Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence Founding Ceremony

In order to respond to the national strategic call of the  New Generation of Artificial Intelligence Development Plan , Renmin University of China (RUC) establishes the Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence (GSAI) on January 19^th. GSAI aims at carrying forward the “ Double First-Class ” construction of RUC by developing artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-based interdisciplinary research.

Jin Nuo, the Party Committee Secretary of RUC, Liu Wei, the President of RUC, Zhang Jianmin, the Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Wang Liming, the Executive Vice President, and Mr. Zhang Lei, the founder of the Hillhouse Capital Group and an alumnus of RUC, attend the founding ceremony of GSAI altogether. Zhu Xinkai, the Vice President of RUC, presides the ceremony.

Before the meeting, Jin Nuo and Liu Wei, along with Zhang Jianming, Wang Liming and Zhu Xinkai meet with Zhang Lei. In the congratulation letter for the 80^th founding anniversary of RUC, President Xi Jinping indicates that RUC distinguishes from other universities in its humanities and social sciences field, and that RUC cultivates numerous brilliant talents for the revolution, construction and reformation for the country. Looking backwards into the history, the development of RUC is not only benefited from the Party and the country, but also profited from the strong support of its alumni and business circles. As a prominent alumni representative, Mr. Zhang Lei always put the education business of his alma mater in an important position. RUC hopes that Mr. Zhang Lei could maintain his attention on the development of his alma mater as usual, working together with all the faculties and students, and making more contributions to the  World Top University Construction of RUC in the future.

Liu Wei, on behalf of RUC, expresses his warm welcome to Mr. Zhang Lei’s return and gives his appreciation to the support from Mr. Zhang Lei and the Hillhouse Capital Group. In recent years, the AI technology is advanced by leaps and bounds worldwide. The foundation of GSAI is a significant step, showing that RUC follows the trend of International technology development, creating discipline development ecosystem, and providing better service to national and local constructions.
