Recently, the CCF-IEEE CS Young Scientist Award for five young scholars in 2021 wasannounced.Professor Wayne Xin Zhao fromGaoling School of Artificial Intelligence, Renmin University of China won the CCF-IEEE CS Young Scientist Award for his outstanding contributions to social user interest understanding and recommendation algorithms.
The CCF-IEEE CS Young Scientist Award is jointly set up by CCF (China Computer Federation) and IEEE Computer Society (CS). It is awarded to young scholarsunder the age of 40 who havemade outstanding achievements and important contributions in scientific research.
A total of fivescholars won the CCF-IEEE CS Young Scientist Award this year. In addition to Professor Wayne Xin Zhao from Renmin University of China, Researcher Kai Chen from Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IIE CAS), Associate Professor GuangyuSun from Peking University, Professor Fan Wu from Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Associate Professor Yingfei Xiongfrom Peking University also won the awardfor their outstanding achievements and important contributions.

Wayne Xin Zhao is currently a tenured associate professor of Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence, Renmin University of China. In July 2014, Wayne Xin Zhao received his Ph.D. from Peking University, and since then he has been working at Renmin University of China. His research field is information retrieval and natural language processing, and he has published more than 80 papers in total. Professor Wayne Xin Zhaohas won the 2020 WuWenjun Artificial Intelligence Outstanding Youth Award and ECIR’21 Test of Time Award, and was selected into the Youth Talent Promotion Project of China Association for Science and Technology and Beijing Zhiyuan Young Scientist.
