Introduction of GSAI
2019-08-02Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence (GSAI) is an official school affiliated to Renmin University of China (RUC). It is aiming to become a top school that can influence and shape the era of AI. Besides advancing AI theory and technology, GSAI is dedicated to bringing together AI and humanities, and exploring an “intelligent and warm” future for the world.
Founded in 1937, Renmin University has a remarkable position in the area of Humanities and Social Sciences, and GSAI builds on that legacy. Responsible for the construction of AI discipline and correlative cross disciplines in Renmin University, GSAI is going to innovate a world-class academic system, build a world-class faculty team, cultivate world-class students, and produce world-class research results. Since the very beginning of its establishment, GSAI has captured the attention of the whole world. It received sincere congratulations from Yale University, Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, etc. Peter Salovey, the President of Yale University, said that GSAI is positioned to bridge the gap between technology and its impact on people.
GSAI is donated by Mr. Lei Zhang, the founder and CEO of the Hillhouse Capital Group. The Chair of the Academic Committee of GSAI is Prof. Yunhe Pan, one of the pioneers in the field of intelligent CAD and computer arts. He is the Director of the National New Generation AI Strategic Advisor Committee, and also the former Deputy President of Chinese Academy of Engineering. The Executive Dean of GSAI is Prof. Ji-Rong Wen, who has been working in the fields of information retrieval, data mining and machine learning for a long time. He once was the group manager of the Web Search and Mining Group in Microsoft Research Asia, and was elected as a national distinguished professor in 2013.
